TAKE notice of your children and avoid pitfalls of modern living, says the man behind a travelling show full of bush characters.
Mr Sjaak Kusters last week presented his Great Aussie Bush Show in the Brisbane Street Mall, complete with larger than life kangaroo and koala figures and puppets.
Mr Kusters is based in Melbourne but is no stranger to Launceston as he was a radio announcer on 7LA (now LA FM) from 1981-84.
Now he tours the nation presenting his show plus runs a business producing on-hold messages for phones, radio commercials, presentation CDs plus public speaking coaching and supplying comperes.
But he said after years of presenting his show to children, he knew they loved colour and movement and valued interaction with their parents.
He said that interaction taught them values and helped keep them out of trouble.
"The key (to the show) is making it active and full of action," he said.
"It's full of that all the time, no gaps."
And he said parents could do their own mini-shows for their children by becoming involved in their lives and not just give them things.
"I reckon kids get too much, make sure they get out in the backyard and interact rather than watching television and video games," he said.
"As the world goes on, the nine-year-olds are off with mobile phones and computers, we have lost them."
