I RAN for election on three key issues - cleaning up the Tamar River, investigating and establishing a fairer rating system and a comprehensive car parking strategy.
In the month that I have been on council I have received briefings and reports on all three issues and feel confident that some positive outcomes can be attained on all three.
The Tamar River is a massive challenge for our region and one which is not just Launceston's river to fix.
An investigation into the rating system is under way and will be presented to council early in 2010 for consideration and I am still gathering information to assist in making good contributions to solving many of the parking issues that plague our city.
One strategy, which is a fantastic initiative, is the Tiger Bus park-and- ride system at Inveresk, one which will go a long way to not only taking cars out of the city centre and freeing up parking for shoppers but also one that removes car exhaust emissions.
There is also much to be said for the council's strategy on developing cycle ways as this too not only removes traffic congestion but also frees up space in the CBD.
I look forward to continued hard work with council staff, with aldermen and with the community on seeing these three big issues in our city being effectively dealt with.
