Illegal posters stripped from CBD

20 Oct, 2009 12:00 AM
A CRACKDOWN on illegal posters in the CBD has been undertaken in recent weeks, according to Launceston City Council development services manager Ian Abernethy.

In response to a question from Alderman Ivan Dean, Mr Abernethy said a number of illegal posters had been removed from signs and buildings in the city.

"The relevant sections of the council have gone around and scraped a lot of the posters off the poles and walls in the CBD," Mr Abernethy said.

"My inspectors have also contacted the various venues that were mentioned on those posters and we are seeking their cooperation in not putting up posters in the future. Very soon it will actually be an offence (to put up posters without permission) because of changes to the Litter Act, which will put the onus back on the venues mentioned in the posters to take some responsibility for where they are posted."
