GRACEFUL metal figures are striking tai chi poses, such as the wild horse mane and cloud hand, in Ockerby Gardens beside the Launceston General Hospital.
The four figures by Deloraine artist John Parish are the latest addition to Margaret Young Place.
Margaret Young died in 2004 after years of teaching yoga and tai chi and serving the community.
Friends and students of the former teacher have formed a group to build the park.
Group president Iris Johnstone said the figures were in tai chi poses and reflected the spirit of the site and the person it remembered.
Mrs Johnstone said seats and landscaping was also planned.
She said the site was an outdoor rest and recreation area for patients and hospital visitors plus an area to practise tai chi.
She said the area would be useful to patients seeking peace, contemplation and even exercise, outside the enclosed space of the hospital.
Mrs Johnstone said hundreds of people went through the area daily and was part of a push for more seating in the city.
Seats gave somewhere for older people to rest and younger people a chance to slow down.
She said Margaret Young was devoted to promoting wellbeing, peace and harmony by teaching yoga and tai chi.
She also did a wide range of community service.
