THERE was life in Launceston at the beginning of 2012, thanks to the return of New Year on Royal.
Held on the shores of the Tamar River at Royal Park, the event had food and wine stalls, live music and two fireworks displays.
Event chairwoman Lou Clark said it was an entertaining, enjoyable and safe night for all involved.
"We have had a lot of positive feedback and people really enjoyed themselves - and that's the main reason why we do it," Ms Clark said.
"I think the fireworks were definitely a highlight, they were fantastic and it was also great to see a lot of families and the community coming together.
"Our security did an amazing job, Tasmania Police were also there and that was the really positive thing about the event, there was no trouble, it was just a safe, relaxed, friendly, sociable night."
Ms Clark said the event was an important addition to Launceston's social calendar.
"Every city should have a new year event - in 2010 we didn't have one and the city was just dead," she said.
"People either stayed at home, went to their holiday homes or to Hobart because there was nothing happening here.
"An event like this encourages people to stay in Launceston, it supports local businesses and contractors and it brings the community together."
