WORK on the Dilston bypass is ahead of schedule despite a wet start to the $60 million project.
It is expected that the works will be completed by September 2011, three months earlier than original estimates.
Completed sections of the project include fencing, cleaning and removing top vegetation as well as excavation and embankment construction.
Recently the contractor has been working more extensively at junctions where the bypass connects with the existing East Tamar Highway.
Work at the southern junction is progressing well and work on the northern junction is organised for spring 2010.
The project includes creating two kilometres of dual carriageway and seven kilometres of three- lane highway with a wire rope safety fence separating north-bound and south-bound traffic.
Because of recent wet weather in the area, the contractor has been concentrating on work on the Barnards Creek bridge section and on culvert work.
The existing Barnards Creek bridge is being replaced with a new four lane bridge and has caused regular delays at the site.
